Steppin’ Into Backgrounds
Backgrounds have always been a great interest of mine, but also a struggle to create. That’s why I do them.
I’m currently working on a project and after doing several vector driven backgrounds I decided to ditch them all and spend time and effort in creating texture driven versions and I’m glad I did. I think texture in a background adds a lot more interest and gets away from that slickness that vector designs bring.
Since I’m creating them in Photoshop I spent time developing some custom brushes by scanning in various textures such as sponge prints, crayons and charcoal.
Below is one background showing the steps from pencil to blocking out color to completed design. I also added a close up detail image. Each scene will have at least three different angles.
I’ll post more background scenes as I progress so please check back.
